Democrat Dan Wood Starts Strong In Race For Open Seat

Incumbent Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) announced he is not running for re-election. Democratic challenger Dan Wood looks forward to 2018 as a time for change.
“I want to thank Rep. Hensarling for his many years of public service. While I have disagreed with many of his actions, I still have the utmost respect for him as a public servant. His announcement was a great surprise to many of us in the 5th District. 2018 will be a year of change and progress, so I look forward to the battle ahead.”
Wood announced his candidacy for the 5th District in April of this year. He has raised more money than any other Democrat running for this office since Rep. Hensarling was elected in 2002. Without a running incumbent, the Congressional seat is open for 2018.
For 30 years, Wood has practiced law in the trial and appellate courts of Texas. Wood is a graduate of Terrell High School, a former student at Texas A&M University, and a Baylor Law School graduate receiving a J.D. in 1986. Wood has been active in his hometown of Terrell currently serving as chair of the Terrell Library Advisory Board, and formerly serving as a city councilman and mayor pro tem. Wood was the 2012 Democratic nominee for Place 2 on the Dallas Court of Appeals.
