Texas 5th District Candidate Dan Wood Files for Democratic
Primary Ballot, Aims For Open Congressional Seat
TERRELL, TX – Dan Wood files for a place on the Democratic Primary ballot for the open-seat race in Texas’ 5th Congressional District.
“This campaign is one of many around the country challenging the Trump administration’s efforts to undermine our democracy. Democrats nationwide are aiming to replace Republicans in the U.S. House in 2018, and that’s exactly what I intend to accomplish next November.”
Wood announced his candidacy in April of this year and is the first Democrat to run for the 5th since 2012. The current incumbent, Rep. Jeb Hensarling, announced two weeks ago that he would not be running for re-election. This opening creates a unique opportunity for a Democrat running for what is considered to be a traditionally-held Republican seat.
“2018 is a time for change. The people of the 5th are tired of being forgotten. The current administration is not looking out for Texans, farmers, honorable veterans, or retired senior citizens. So many people in this district feel their voice hasn’t been heard, and I aim to change that.”
Wood looks forward to seeing the candidate line-up on December 11th, which is the filing deadline for a place on the respective party primary ballot. The primary election is March 6, 2018.
